Buastova is a nice, small cabin at Rongen farm at Bolstadøyri, a village between Bergen and Voss. From the place there is a nice view down the valley and to the river Vosso.

About Bolstadøyri

Bolstadøyri is a small village at the end of the Bolstad fjord, with about 230 inhabitants. The Bolstad River ( part of Vosso) is known for fishing wild salmon. From about 1600 the village with its inn was an important market place.

The cabin

In the cabin is about 30 m2, there is a kitchenette, seat arrangement, a sofabed (120 cm) and a family bunk bed (120 cm x 70 cm) where 3-5 persons can sleep – all in one room. Bathroom with heated floors, shower, toilet, hairdryer and washing machine.

Parking is free. The guests can use the garden, garden furniture and grill.

Wi-fi is free.

Next door to the rental object there is an old traditional 18th century room restored in the old style. Viewing is possible by appointment.

I there is a room for making traditional flat bread. Viewing and course can be arranged but has to be booked beforehand.

The farm

Rongen farm is an old farm. The first written papers we know about is from 1647, but probably people have lived here long before that.

Besides the residental house other old buildings are the barn, a mill for grinding grain and an old stone building for storing grass.

Originally Buastova was built as a room for storing meat ,corn and flatbread. Buastova was restored as an extra guestroom i 2006. You can still see the old handmade nails in the beams where the meat was hanging.

Shops and cafes

There is a grocery at Evanger 10 km east of Bolstadøyri and at Dale 12 km west of Bolstadøyri (is open also at Sundays)

You find cafes at Evanger, Dale and Voss. At Voss there also are restaurants.

Gas station you find at Dale and Voss.



Bolstadøyri and Voss have a lot of possibilities for hiking in the mountains in sommar and skiing in winter. The farm has a mountain farm with a cabin Raustølen. (10 km by car to Øvstedalen, from there hiking ca 45minutes.)



Bolstadelva which is a part of the river Vosso, is well known as a river for salmon fishing. You can fish salmon and trout between 01.07 and 31.08. More information at www.bolstadelva.com and the link for booking https://www.scanatura.no.

In lakes in the mountains and other small rivers you can also buy a fishing license.



Bycycles can be hired at Voss. Many routes for cycling in the area.



Kayaking is possible at the Bolstadfjord. You have to bring your own kayak or hire one at Voss.



If you are experienced, it is a nice area for paragliding at Bolstad. At Voss there is courses and tandemtrips.


Mountain climbing

At Nåli at Bolstad (Horvei) there are several routes for klimbing.

From Bolstad it is easy to go to Bergen (73 km) and Voss Voss (30 km)

Bolstad is also an ideal base for trips to the Hardangerfjorden and Sognefjorden and the well known trips “Norway in a nutshell “ til Nærøyfjorden – Flåm – Myrdal.



Voss is well known for its festivals , Vossajazz, Osafestival, Bluesfestival and Vossa-cup,

Alpine skiing facilities in winter, extreme-sport activities in sommer are found at Voss. ( Slalom , snowboard etc Bavallen, 32 km og Myrkdalen 57 km) Cross country ( Herresåsen 37 km).

The cabin lies next door to the the main house that has an old room for smoking meat and fish. In the cellar it is possible to bake traditional flatbread. I can guide you if  you make an appointment beforehand. Traditional baking is also possible if you make an appointment.


The Place

Bolstadøyri is a small village with about 230 inhabitants.

Local sights : An old inn from 1663 in Louis seize style and Flåtemuseet/raft museum by Bolstad fjord (1.7 km), the old post road between Bergen and Kristiania (old Oslo) with steps carved in stone (1.5 km), and the “Castle” by Horvei, an old dragon style building (1.5 km).

When the railway between Bergen and Voss was opened i 1883 the steamboats and the traffic to Bergen at the fjord disappeared.
